Do you think it would be OK if I wear an eye mask to surgery?
I do not like bright lights and think it will help to relax.
At least that surgery is the head, nothing up there will be sterile. If you have a procedure that requires no general anesthesia, just ask, and it will probably be OK. We let people make iPods surgery if they have a nerve block or spinal epidural or other. Other patients make rosaries, Bibles, or, or other comforting things with them. Children bring stuffed animals Blankies or in the OR. It's OK. If you have general, this is probably not a good idea, because your mask has a high probability of being lost. We need off the induction of anesthesia, and we closed eyelids tape after you go to sleep. The bright lights of major surgery do not go until after you sleep, anyway. Before that, it's just normal fluorescent room lights. Good luck with the surgery.
