Koh Bag is a small peninsula shaped kidneys located just north of Koh Larn. It is very popular with the large number of Asian tourists who come in Pattaya, and the waters can be very busy especially in the morning. From noon to count the tourists tend to depart, leaving divers and snorkellers to enjoy the magnificent bay and coral abundance. This bay is well protected from prevailing winds for most of the year and the water is calm and clear.
There are many dive sites around the island, mostly in the 3 to 15 meters range, although the Eastern front side corals, some deep located about 26 meters. The northeast corner start with clean white sand rose the usual array of hard corals when approaching the island. Here, the corals are at depths of 1-6m and as you at the corner of their progress deeper stretching up to 18 meters. This corner has a little Hawksbill and leatherback turtles and numerous Gray Nurse Sharks. The sharks are difficult to find because they tend to be very shy and divers need to get them, usually in the coral heads.
As you angle and depth increases the area is full of whip corals, barrel sponges, some soft corals and gorgonian fans. Once around the corner, the reefs continue around the southern shore of the island.
An interesting dive site that you approach Koh bag Pattaya is located directly opposite the small cliff about 100m to a depth of 26 m. This site consists mainly of soft corals and hydroids on a flat sandy bottom and is home to numerous colonies of seahorses, fish and fish pipe dragon. Unfortunately, the diver must dive to catch the right time of day when all the soft corals are open to really enjoy the myriad of pastel and fluorescent colors present.
In the sandy bay of Koh bag as you head in a northwesterly direction away from the island, there is no mention of corals. The area is home to some very rare species, including the two above mentioned, as well as sea horses, pipe fish, short spiny urchins, sand dollars Urchins, Star Fish and banded Tube Tube Anemones. Flat fish, spiders, juvenile octopus and shrimp Periclimes.
In the western part of the bay there are vast areas of coral shallow (2 to 4 meters) with abundant marine life that are suitable for diver and snorkeler alike, although divers should be wary of the large amount of surface traffic, jet ski, banana boat and speed boats. The best time to be here is from noon, when hordes of tourists leaving the island to return to Pattaya. It is a pity that we do not have rules that are applied to protect corals and visitors view them.
Turning to the northwest corner of Koh bag, taking in coral bay, corals extend deeper to around 15 meters that divers around the corner. The corals here are in excellent condition, and the area is classified by Bommes great Boulder, and several levels sumac, Plate, Encrusting, Brain and mushroom corals. Life Shipping is abundant and includes various Damsels, Banana Fish, Copper Banded Butterfly, Butterflies Bantayan, napoleons of all kinds, pumps, squirrels and Jacks Fusiliers. It is also a little turtle. Gray Nurse sharks, moray eels and small blue spotted Stingrays to find.
This is an excellent site for divers (beginners and experienced) and as apnea.
